Jewelry Care
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is an alloy of steel and chromium. It combines the strength, durability, and functionality of steel with the luster, low-maintenance upkeep, and resistance to corrosion of chromium. Stainless steel gold color is more durable than sterling silver and can last longer. All gold jewelry have a coating: 14k golden color PVD. Physical Vapor Deposition, or PVD, is a vacuum coating process that produces a brilliant decorative and functional finish and it’s more resistant to corrosion.
This is a timeless investment, but caring for your pieces will help ensure its beauty and longevity. The golden tone may fade on tiny jump rings, small components and fastenings.
We try our best to make jewelry that lasts forever, but you need to take good care of it. As it’s certainly tempting to wear your Hey You Jewelry all the time, we recommend removing when doing any of the following activities excessively:
-
It is water resistant, however, overexposure to water may wear off the plating faster (rhodium and copper) or turn slightly darker (stainless steel). For long-lasting plating, we advise removing jewelry when showering, swimming, exercising and before going to bed.
-
Avoid contact with abrasive products or situations, especially cosmetics, detergents or perfumes. Do not spray on perfume or other sprays while wearing your jewelry. Wear your jewelry after you have sprayed on your favourite perfume so that chemicals on the spray or perfume does not interact with your jewelry’s metal.
-
Wait until your lotion or cream is dry or has been absorbed by your skin before you wear your gold plated ring, bracelet or necklace.
-
Substances like oil, nail polish, nail polish remover and chlorine may react with metal/plated jewelry and will cause it to tarnish easily.
-
Scratches and user marks may occur. This is normal when wearing it for a longer time on a daily basis. To avoid scratches, wrap your jewelry in a soft cloth after cleaning or keep it in a jewelry box separate from other types of jewelry you have.
-
Every after use, clean your plated jewelry with a cotton ball or a very soft cloth to remove any dust and dirt it has acquired. Gently rubbing the surface of your gold plated jewelry using a soft jewelry cloth also helps restore shine.
-
If your jewelry needs more cleaning you may clean it with warm, soapy water. Soak it for a few minutes and you may clean it with a soft brush. Stay away from jewelry cleaners and antibacterial soaps which may have certain components that will just make your gold plated jewelry tarnish more quickly.
-
Jewelry should be stored away from direct sunlight and heat, in a protective (lined) jewelry box or a tarnish-resistant pouch. It can also be stored in a plastic zip lock bag made of polyethylene. Never use polyvinyl plastic bags, such as trash can liners, as they contain sulphur compounds, or rubber containers. Do not store your jewelry in the bathroom or any other humid places.
